Delhi releases two CJP leaders after seven days in custody over Jantar Mantar protest2026-10-14A magistrate remanded Cockroach Janata Party leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das to five days’ judicial custody on October 14, after police accused them of trespassing and violating peace bonds. The day before, the two and other CJP members crossed barricades into Jantar Mantar, waved the national flag and called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign; the site had been removed from Delhi’s designated protest venues list. The CJP had been protesting revisions to voter rolls and demanding Kumar’s resignation.Police registered two FIRs against 14 CJP members over alleged trespass, disobedience of official orders and obstruction; fellow leader Ajinkya Shinde was released on a personal bond.Rahul Gandhi said peaceful flag-waving at Jantar Mantar was not a crime and vowed to reclaim the protest site. After the initial five-day remand, a special executive magistrate extended Das and Ranka’s custody by two days; they were released on October 21 after signing a written apology and affidavit.CJP’s Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka sent to five-day judicial custody in trespassing case (The Hindu)Delhi Police detain CJP leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka again at Jantar Mantar amid SIR protests (The Economic Times)CJP, Congress push to restore protests at Jantar Mantar amid arrest of leaders (Hindustan Times)कॉकरोच पार्टी नेता आशुतोष-सौरव को हिरासत में लिया गया: जंतर-मंतर पहुंचे थे; कल से ही यहां प्रदर्शन बैन किया...
