UN Fourth Committee adopts draft resolution on Western Sahara by 152 votes

The Fourth Committee adopted the draft resolution by 152 votes to two, with seven countries abstaining.
The draft reaffirms support for UN-led negotiations to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, and calls for intensive, good-faith negotiations without preconditions.
The draft calls on the parties and countries in the region to cooperate with the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, and to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law.
Morocco voted in favor of the resolution following an exceptional U.S. request for a vote; since 2006, it had usually been adopted by consensus.
