India’s Supreme Court calls for safer Diwali celebrations amid firecracker pollution concerns

The Supreme Court urged a balance between religious sentiments and public-health concerns over firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, encouraging people to choose safer practices voluntarily.
The bench said it was not inclined to impose a blanket ban and cautioned against orders that would be difficult to enforce.
The judges called for public awareness of firecracker pollution and encouraged less harmful alternatives, including celebrations centred on lamps.
The court scheduled the next hearing for October 15.
