U.S. inflation accelerated to 3.7% in September, driven by gasoline

The consumer price index rose 0.6% from August and 3.7% year over year, above expectations.
Gasoline prices rose 9.1% for the month and accounted for more than half of the monthly increase in the index.
Core inflation, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.3% month over month and 2.6% year over year.
The report could increase pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates at its October meeting.
